The Foundation Principle of Yoga Science and Essence of Mind Yoga

The foundation principle of yoga science is this: energy will flow to wherever your focus your awareness, whether it is inside of or outside of your body. When you “feel with your mind” a part of your body, you are lighting it up with energy. The study of yoga science is what happens when you put thought into different parts of your body and why.

Where you put thought into your body (i.e. where you are directing energy to) changes what type of energy you radiate into your environment. For example, if you meditate on (feel with your mind) your chest area it will stimulate your heart chakra and (once it is open and clear) you will begin radiating Love energy to those around you.

For most people this is a completely subconscious thing. Throughout the day their awareness will light upon different parts of their body, depending on their mood and what they are doing. However, the reins can be taken at any moment by consciously directing your awareness to encompass certain parts of your body. This is the essence of mind yoga meditation: sustained concentration of awareness upon specific areas of the body.

With practice, mind yoga meditation can be sustained throughout the entire day as you go about your life. Your whole day becomes a yoga meditation, and eventually the meditations will become permanent as more and more of your body “wakes up” and is filled with Light.

Mind yoga meditation also stills the mind, drawing your awareness away from the babbling ego “i” voice into the silent current of energy that is the Now moment.

A simple mind yoga exercise:

Hold your right hand in front of you and look at it. As you do this, you are encompassing it within your field of awareness. Energy is flowing there. Feel your right hand with your mind.

Now look at your pinky finger for a few seconds, then each other finger in turn. Notice how the finger fills with energy as you put your awareness upon it. Now close your eyes and do the same thing. There is no need to visualize anything, though it is fine if you want to do that, simply allow your mind to be aware of and feel each finger.

Then, with your eyes still closed, bring your left foot into your awareness. Notice how the energy has flowed there; you have lit it up with your mind. Did you forget about your right hand? Most likely you were so focused on your left foot that, temporarily, your right hand was “left in the dark”. Now try feeling with your mind both of your hands and both of your feet all at the same time and hold it for as long as you can.

You have just performed a simple mind yoga meditation utilizing the foundation principle of yoga science: energy will flow to wherever you focus your awareness.
